The robots will compete in 4 tasks: basic navigation, advanced navigation, weed detection and freestyle. The best three robots from each task and the best in first three (cumulative points) will be awarded. In the first two tasks the team can get up to n points, where n is the number of all registered teams. If they are 20, the best robot will get 20 points, the second best 19 and so on. If there is a tie, for example for the 3rd place, both robots will get 18 points and the fifth 16. For the third and fourth task each team can get up to 20 points, but only the third task counts for overall points.

All teams that will compete in each task will get at least 1 point per task. If the sum points/meters will be negative, the team will get 1 point for compeating.

1st Task – Basic Navigation mezika

The gole of the first task is to test the robot's basic navigation capabilities. The robot starts at the begining of two crop rows and has to move between them. Once the robot has reached the end of the first line it has to turn in to the next left or right line (based on the prior instructions from the jury) and continue down the second line. At the end of the second line it has to turn in the next right (or left) line. And so on, until it has not reached the end of the field and there are no more crop lines to cover or 3 minutes has passed from the start.

In 3 minutes time the robot has to cover as much terrain as it can. 

Positive points: After 3 minutes the distance that the robot has driven will be measured.

Negative points: If the robot has damaged a corn plant, 1 m will be subtracted from the distance. If a member of the team had to touch the robot, 3 m will be subtracted.

Ties: If two robots will have the same distance (after minus meters), the robot that completed first will be graded better. If both robots have the same distance and time, they will get the same number of points.


2nd Task – Advance Navigation mcm.smilie.dirol

In the second task the robot has to move according to the pattern which will be provided to the teams just prior to the start of the second task. Besides driving according to the provided pattern the robot must also account for partial missing crop lines as well as possible obsticles and avoid them. The robot has to complete the task in 3 minuts.

The patteren for the example map would be: S-2R-4L-2L-5R-F

task2 

Points

In 3 minutes time the robot has to cover as much terrain as it can follow the pattern that was given to the teams 15 minutes prior to the start of the task. Only rows that will be in the pattern will count, so if the robot misses the row or turns in the wrong one it will not count.

Positive points: After 3 minutes the distance that the robot has driven will be measured.

Negative points: If the robot has damaged a corn plant, 1 m will be subtracted from the distance. If a member of the team had to touch the robot, 3 m will be subtracted.

Ties: If two robots will have the same distance (after minus meters), the robot that completed first will be graded better. If both robots have the same distance and time, they will get the same number of points.


3rd Task – Detect Dried Up Plants And Build A Map Of The Field mcm.smilie.crazy

In the third task the robot has to move troug the maize, detect good as well as dried plants and  build a map of the field or at least as much as it has covered.  The robot must detect dried up plants in a group of good plant and spray them (or light a light,  blow the horn, ...). A map of the field has to be in picture format (tiff) with a minimum resolution of 2 pixel per cm so the jury can asses and grade all maps.

Good plants will be sprayed with brown color in order to simulate dried plants. The spray will be send to the registered teams prior to the event.

Map colours:

  1. Unknown/unexplored area: GRAY pixel color
  2. Plants/Obstacles/Walls: BLACK pixel color
  3. Free known area/explored area: WHITE pixel color
  4. Marked plants/detection target: RED pixel color

task3 

Points

In 3 minutes time the robot has to cover as much terrain as possible, build a map of the environment, detect dried up (painted) plants and treat them (spray them / light a light / blow a horn /…). 

Positive points: The point system in this task consists of two parts. The first is the detection/treatment and the second is a map of the environment. Each will be awarded up to 10 points or up to 20 in total.

For each correctly detected/treated maize area the team will get 2 points. This means there will be 5 sections in the maize that need to be detected/treated.

The map of the environment must be build according to the specifications from the description of the task.  If will be compared to a reference map based on which the maize will be planted and coloured. The team will get 5 points if the rows are correctly detected and 5 points for dried up areas.

A good hit is considered if the robot detects/treats dried up plants no sooner than 2 pots before (around 0.25 m) and stops at the latest 2 pots after. The dried up plants will be in group of at least 3 pots.

The team must provide a map of the environment no later than 15 minutes after their robot has finished driving trough the maize.

Negative points: If the robot has damaged a corn plant, 0.5 point / pot will be subtracted from the distance. If a member of the team had to touch the robot, 1 point will be subtracted. If the robot started to soon or too late to treat the dried up area or if the area is not correctly drawn (±0.25 m) on the map, but the area is partly overlapping with the reference, the team will loos half the points (-1/area while performing, -0.5 on the map). 


4th Task – Free Stylemisica

The fourth task is left up to each team's imagination.  They have to improve / upgrade their robot to do samething else, something new that is related to agriculture. The only limitation is that the robots ability has to be presented on a competition area.
